Precious is a Registered Clinical Psychologist, whose professional experience over the years has been in adult emotional and psychological difficulties, but has also spanned more specialist areas such as learning disability, older adults, and health issues (for example, stroke rehabilitation, HIV Aids).
She works from an integrative perspective which collaboratively draws on psychological ideas and models that are, together, more suited to the needs of her clients. These include Systemic principles, Narrative approaches and ‘third wave’ CBT approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. With respect to fellow practitioners, she offers professional supervision, and provides teaching on the doctoral clinical psychology training programme of Essex University.
For many people, it is so important to draw together effectively all of the various ‘parts’ that make up the ‘whole’ of a problem they face, and Precious is passionate about doing this with clients. Particular concerns she has are to examine illness perceptions and narratives outside the dominant Western sphere, and to take seriously the role of religion/spirituality in the pursuit of wholeness.
