Martyn is a Chartered and Registered Clinical Psychologist, with over 30 years’ clinical experience. He has been involved with providing professional training for clinical psychologists at University of East London. He has also worked as an NHS clinical psychologist in the Newham Docklands area over a substantial period of time.

Over the years, Martyn has focused upon several specific models of working with psychological issues. However, he now prefers to work in a pluralistic manner, drawing upon a variety of psychological theories and concepts to foster self-understanding and strategies for personal change, as particular problems demand. [Problems have often been given a label (for example, a mental health diagnosis, like ‘depression’, or ‘anxiety’ etc), but he has found it more useful to try to avoid this, and think of them in psychological terms as a present part of a person’s past experiences and future goals.]

In addition to working as a psychological therapist, Martyn is also skilled in providing professional supervision for clinical work and for psychological research, and continues to act in this role.

He continues to find psychology and religion/spirituality absolutely absorbing. Indeed, that is what drew him into psychology in the first place. Latterly, he has developed a greater focus upon specifically Christian religiousness/spirituality with respect to clinical problems, from both a psychotherapeutic and a research perspective.

He is a founder member in 2013 of Christian Psychological Services London Although still on the CPSL team, he re-located to Essex in 2018 and now offers individual psychological therapy services based in the city of Chelmsford, looking to develop Christian Psychological Services Essex.
